Title: Responsible innovation for quantum
Abstract: In 2021, we have witnessed increased discussion over the societal aspects of quantum technologies. For examples, see discussion over societal implications in CIFAR’s report on quantum strategies and the World Economic Forum’s work on ethical principles for quantum computing. In this talk, I describe the early results of a series of interviews conducted with Australian researchers and industry stakeholders on ‘responsible quantum’. Then, I present some next steps for examining the public good of quantum in this early stage of the sector’s development.
Bio: Dr Roberson is a postdoctoral researcher at the EQUS. Her research is co-funded by the CSIRO Future Science Platform for Responsible Innovation.
Tara is a science communicator and social scientist who works with quantum physicists to understand the implications of emerging technologies in their field. These potential technologies could be applied in a range of areas, such as health, finance, defence, and telecommunications. Tara's work helps pre-empt positive and negative impacts of quantum technologies. This will help shape technologies that are both socially desirable and created in the public interest.
Tara completed her PhD in Canberra at Australia's National Centre for Public Awareness of Science at ANU. She completed both her Bachelor and Masters degrees at the University of Queensland.
